What is a community foundation?
The concept of a community foundation was initiated by Frederick Goff of Cleveland, Ohio, in 1914. He was interested in establishing an
agency in which people of relatively modest means could engage in large-scale philanthropy by pooling their resources in one central
arena.

The result?
Since Goff's time, more than 700 community foundations have been established in the United States. In Indiana, we are fortunate
enough to be served in every county by a community foundation, thanks to the generosity of the Lilly Endowment.

Your community foundation has been around since 1996.
Originally affiliated with Lawrence County, Indiana's foundation, the Orange County Community Foundation broke out on its own in 2001.
Since then, your community foundation's total assets have increased to more than $5,000,000.
