| 2008 LILLY ENDOWMENT COMMUNITY SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS Working with Independent Colleges of Indiana (ICI), the Orange County Community Foundation awarded two Orange County residents with full tuition, required fees, and a special allocation of up to $800 per year for required books toward their pursuits of bachelors degrees through the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship program. From a field of 13 finalists, chosen as this year's recipients for the Lilly Scholarship are Kaitlan Woolsey of Springs Valley High School and Emily Johnson of Orleans High School. Emily Johnson is the daughter of George and Gina Johnson of Orleans. Emily will graduate from Orleans High School as valedictorian this year, and plans to attend Purdue University to pursue a degree in engineering. During her academic career, Emily served as field commander for the Orleans Bulldog Regiment, team captain of the academic team, and a tutor to her peers. Other recognition of her academic achievements have come in the form of the Kiwanis Honor for Academic Excellence and the Top Biology Award. In her own words, Emily states, "with hard work and dedication, I will earn my degree in four years and finish school." A senior at Springs Valley High School, Kaitlan Woolsey is the daughter of Beverly Allen and Charles Woolsey. She will graduate as her school's salutatorian this year, and has received many honors and awards in recognition her her academic achievements. Kaitlan plans to attend Indiana University in pursuit of a degree in either biochemistry or psychology. She hopes to someday work in the medical industry in some capacity. "My plans are to...do my career work for Lilly," she has stated. |
